Custom Furniture Product Discovery Platform
Overview
This project involved designing and developing a multilingual product discovery platform for a luxury custom wood furniture manufacturer.
Beyond presenting products through a traditional catalog, the platform was designed around the different ways customers explore custom furniture. It unified multiple product discovery paths, rich marketing content, and content management within a single ecosystem, enabling customers to navigate the catalog from different perspectives while allowing administrators to manage the entire experience without technical assistance.
The Problem
Finding custom furniture is fundamentally different from purchasing standardized products, as customers often begin their search with inspiration rather than a specific item or model.
Traditional product catalogs were designed around fixed product listings, making it difficult for customers to explore collections from different perspectives or discover products that matched their preferences. At the same time, maintaining a rich multilingual catalog required continuous content updates without relying on technical teams.
The project aimed to provide a flexible product discovery experience supported by a content management system that allowed both customers and administrators to navigate and manage the catalog more effectively.
Engineering Challenges
- Balancing rich product discovery capabilities with an intentionally simple user experience for a general public audience.
My Contributions
- Conducted business analysis through on-site visits to the client's factory and completed projects to better understand customer workflows and product organization.
- Researched international competitors to identify product discovery patterns where comparable local references were unavailable.
- Designed the platform's information architecture, user experience, and user interface based on business analysis and market research.
- Developed the frontend of the multilingual product discovery platform.
Technical Highlights
- Relational Product Classification: Structured product relationships so that the same catalog could be explored through multiple independent navigation paths without duplicating product data, keeping navigation flexible while maintaining a single source of truth for product information.
