Esports Community and Commerce Platform
Overview
This project involved developing a community-oriented esports platform that combined player identity, gaming content, and digital commerce within a unified ecosystem.
Beyond functioning as an online store or community website, the platform enabled players to build a public gaming identity, engage with community content, and purchase both physical and digital products through a consistent user experience. It brought together social interaction, content publishing, and commerce to support the broader needs of an esports community.
The Problem
Competitive gaming communities lacked a dedicated platform where players could build a persistent identity while accessing the broader services surrounding the esports ecosystem.
Gaming-related activities such as player profiles, news, tournaments, merchandise, and digital products were typically scattered across separate platforms, requiring users to move between different services depending on their needs. This fragmented experience limited community engagement and made it difficult for organizers to build a unified ecosystem around competitive gaming.
The project aimed to bring these activities together into a single platform where community participation, digital identity, commerce, and esports services could coexist within a connected experience.
Engineering Challenges
- Supporting multiple fulfillment models for physical merchandise, digital products, redeemable codes, bundled offerings, and customizable products through a consistent purchasing workflow.
- Designing a flexible filtering system driven by product-specific attributes rather than predefined category-specific interfaces.
My Contributions
- Collaborated in requirements analysis, frontend solution design, and API contract definition.
- Redesigned the user experience after evaluating the client's initial concept, creating a more cohesive interface for community features and digital commerce.
- Designed the purchasing experience for multiple product types with distinct fulfillment workflows while maintaining a consistent customer journey.
- Helped evolve the platform from a conventional gaming website into a community-oriented experience centered around persistent player identities.
Technical Highlights
Flexible Product Fulfillment: Supported multiple fulfillment models—including physical merchandise, digital products, redeemable codes, bundled offerings, and customizable products—while maintaining a consistent purchasing workflow across different product types.
Attribute-Driven Product Model: Designed the product model around configurable attributes that dynamically influenced filtering, pricing, and product behavior, enabling diverse product types to be managed through a unified structure.
Configurable Campaign Storefronts: Enabled dedicated event and promotional storefronts that assembled curated product selections without requiring changes to the underlying commerce infrastructure.
